I've had sinus infections for the last 15 years or so and I never smoked so what would your doctor say about that? I also get bronchitis frequently too and they always ask if I smoke. Interestingly only 20% of lung cancer cases are smokers. I just get mad when any group of people are prejudged.
That is very good advice you gave!
I feel your pain. I have had chronic sinusitis for probably 25 years. I was a smoker and all of the doctors said what can you expect, you are a smoker. I quit 20 years ago and the chronic sinusitis never let up. I have had the classic allergy tests and gone in for shots 3x per week and that did nothing. I have gone to a dozen allergists and they have tried sprays and medicine that work for a month and assumed that I had asthma which none of the treatments work. I took a cat scan and was scheduled for turbinate surgery, but that fell through. I have been told since then that it would likely not have helped.
Most recently I have been given Advair and another currently promoted drug and again it helped for a couple of months. The best nose spray is Astelin. But again, it loses it's effectiveness before long.
For the last few years, I have just managed the problem.
Things to try:
1) your basic saline sinus wash
2) colloidal silver
3) oregano when my chest gets feeling heavy (perferably Oregomax best price I have found at www.iherb.com)
4) occasional 24 hour Claritin or maybe an antihistimine.
That has keep the sinus from settling in my chest for years and keeping me from requiring me to have antibiotics.
I wish you well
