ENT says 3 year old needs tonsils and adnoids out BUT I think shes wrong

My 3 year old is sick with a runny nose that turns into a respitory infection every 3 weeks or so. This all started in the fall when she started school. She spent the night in ICU Tuesday because her throat became inflamed with the latest resp infection. BUT this is the 1st time she has ever had a throat problem. She never has a sore throat or ear infections. She also spent the night in the hospital in October for a severe stomache virus. The ent today spent about 5 minutes on her. She looked in her throat, nose and ears. Asked if she snored...NO asked if has had ear infections....NO then scheduled the surgery next week??? She has had a severe iron deficiency but we have had that under control for about a year. She gets sick alot but with everything so if her tonsils look fine....no strep, tonsilitis ect why take them out? Any thoughts?

She has been on augmentin for 1 week now and now has a clear runny nose but she didnt have that a few days after starting the antibiotics. I just wonder if she doesnt have allergies. It just seems odd to me. Of course I cant get any docs to give me advise on here. I dont understand why they will not take yours out.....isnt tonsillitis one of the main reasons to remove them?

Oops...P.S...you mentioned iron deficiency...anemia...I suffer from that too. Why operate on someone who doesn't need it especially if they have anemic tendencies? Surgery of that sort will cause blood loss...the LAST thing a person with an iron problem needs.
Sorry...just had a baby and it was horrific due to the blood loss and the chills that followed for four days postpartum...just because they "forgot" that I needed iron pills. lol

I had my adnoids out when I was 6...but it was because I couldn't breathe. My mom had begged the doctor to remove the tonsils as well because I was constantly on antibiotics for tonsillitis...the doctor said no! I still get tonsillitis all the time.
I also suffer from bad sinuses...always plugged up.
Guess what I am trying to say is...
If they wouldn't yank the tonsils out of a sick child in the 60's/70's then why on earth yank them on a healthy child in the 2k era??!!! They now know that removing the tonsils causes all sorts of problems. Not to mention the pain, bleeding, etc that your child will face.
PLEASE...take her to a different doctor! Sounds like that one is just looking for some operation room time...
If a runny nose is causing her to have respiratory infections then that means she is breathing the snot in...removing the adnoids and tonsils will not make that stop happening.
Adnoids will dissolve by themselves before she hits puberty anyway. If she can breathe then leave them alone.
If that doctor operates on her then I'm going to sue the entire medical professional community for allowing me to suffer my entire life with tonsillitis, when I CLEARLY have had reason over the years to have them removed!
Just kidding...I wouldn't do that...just trying to make a point.
Leave her body intact, and find a new doctor...or at least make him prove to you by testing and by books that this surgery needs to be done.
