Hi,
Itching of the ears can be the first sign of an ear infection, but if the problem is chronic, it is more likely caused by a chronic dermatitis of the ear canal. Seborrheic dermatitis and eczema can both affect the ear canal.
Other probable causes are wax in the ear, allergy, excessive sweating, etc.
Ii is advisable to consult an ENT specialist to look for the actual problem.
"Aim should be to treat the cause, rather than the symptom".
Loratidine is a non-sedating H1 antihistaminic, with minimal side effects you can definitely use it for a long time if it warrants.

I have taken Loratadine 10 mg on and off for at least a decade; I take it when my allergies are out of control. I have also worked with an Allergist for 4 years in the USA (I am an RN) and Loratadine was prescribed alot for long term maintenance of allergies.
I would recommend taking it and following up with an Allergist.
