Strep Problems

Well i went to the doc sunday, he did a strep test and it did test positive. He gave me Augmentin 875, and I went home and everyone said gargle gargle gargle. So I started gargling Listerine, is it possible that by gargling too much listerine I can make my throat more raw? Or will the Listerine just keep on helping?

Also went back to the doc yesterday, the Augmentin had not helped at all as of Tuesday and my uvula and throat were actually beginning to swell up. For some reason they absolutely will not give me a shot (I've always gotten a shot before and it usually cures it right up). They gave me prednisone for the swelling and some sample pain pills called Levacet. The pain pills are awesome but I just want the strep to go away, and it feels like its taking forever.

Actually I was using listerine to gargle every 20 to 30 minutes for about an entire day. :(

Hi,relax,i don't think that you were doing gargling more than thrice daily.Anyway even if it is more than 3 times, there is no evidence to suggest mucosal injury due to overusage.Rawness is due to infection itself.Augmentin is right and effective drug for treatment.Gargling kills superficial bacteria only but augmentin moves via blood and peneterates deeper tissue for effective control.
