a worrisome lump in tongue

3 weeks ago i found this lump at the base of my tongue. It has a foreign sensation and i think it is swelling. I am very worried that it might be something serious. I went to my GP today and he thinks it is normal and not to worry. And he prescribed some steroid cream to put it on.   The link is the picture of the "lump". Should i go to see an ENT or a specialist?Should i put the steroid cream?
i am a 23 year-old man, never smokes and hardly drinks

I do understand your concerns.  One site doesn't mention anything about cancer and another does.

Do what you have been advised by ENT.  ENT is Ears Nose and Throat Department.  If you are really worried, make an appointment with your dentist as they observe abnormalities in the mouth too so you would be given their opinion.

I tried to take a look at the base of my tongue toward the back teeth, and I can't even move my tongue out of the way to see that part.

It even may have a connection to the fungal problem in your mouth.

Best wishes

thank you so much for the very informative reply.
i already get it checked by an ENT. and he said it is called lingual tonsil and it is lymphoid tissue near the tongue. Sometimes it gets swollen and it is okay and nothing needs to be done. He seems quite impatient. He said " it is nothing. no medicine. no nothing. just wait and keep an eye for one-two month and then get it checked again."
I dont understand. I tried to google it and it all poped out like " tongue cancer" stuff really scares me off.

See my reply in the other forum.

The very white coated tongue is a sign of a Thrush (fungal) infection which needs to be treated by an oral antifungal gel Daktarin or Nystatin drops or lozenges (I think they don't make the lozenges any more).

Sometimes a white tongue can be from a bad stomach.

Depending on when your next dental appointment is, you may want to go ahead and see an ENT. It should definitely be checked out.

Show it to your dentist when you have your teeth cleaned.

You have a lot of coating on your tongue.  Your diet may be too high in sugar.  Try mint green tea without sugar for a beverage.  It is good for the mouth.  Take a probiotic and try neem toothpaste or baking soda toothpaste and clean the tongue daily.
