sore throat that don't go away

Hello, I have a "chronic" sore throat (a pharyngitis and also tonsillitis to be accurate with a post nasal drip and tonsilloliths) for more than 2 years now. I have seen many doctors : ENT, immunologist, …. I have absolutely no signs of infection (no lymphadenopathy). I live healthy. I do sports (do not smoke) and I have no health phobia ! Everything is normal with my CBC and all the other serologic tests, PCR or culture… I have no diabetes or immunodeficiency (SPEP, IgG, IgE, complement system, … are ok)… I also have folliculitis (body and scalp) since the beginning of my sore throat. I don't know what to do. I have tried everything : Zithromax, PPIs, Nasal corticosteroid sprays, nasal showers, natural medicine,…). Doctors see that there is something but don't care...But do you think that a staph infection could be behind all this (I have already been tested for gonococci and streptococcus; and it was negative…; but not for staph) ? The doctors I have seen told me it was unlikely because staph is commensal and symptoms don't match … I don't have found very much information about staph and sore throat (or chronic infection) in the scientific literature or elsewhere. What is your opinion about that ? Thanks.

Hello, Thank you for your answer. In my case I don't think it is LPR (because I have already tried medication and a diet for that with no results). I hope that in your case you will be able to get rid of your old habits and that it will get better again. Thank you. @+

I too suffer from a "chronic" sore throat. My ENT diagnosed me with LPR (Larynogopharyngeal Reflux Disease) when I first heard about it & the damage it causes I was "Gung Ho" to combat this disease. Dr told me to stay away from chocolates, caffeine (soda, coffee), acidic foods (tomatoes, oranges, grapefruit etc) spicy foods (jalapeños, salsas, habanero), I was absolutely shocked because being Hispanic, that is pretty much my whole diet. Upon the Drs orders I eliminated all off the foods & beverages mentioned to include fried, greasy foods & certain breads & tortillas. I drank water with everything I are (it was great at first). Dr also told me to stop eating 3 hours before bedtime & suggested I sleep on my left side ( stomach is located on left side of body) theory is that stomach acids are held back with gravity. I will tell you this, I went from 205 lbs to 175 lbs in less than 2 months. I felt that I got better in about 3 months. All my symptoms including post nasal drop went away. Soon after that I went back to my old habits. I gained the weight back & am in discomfort everyday. I have started to go back to that bland lifestyle again (difficult as hell) but I have to do what I have to do for my  well being & quality of life. Hope this helps.
