It might be food concretions getting trapped in the tonsils which are called tonsilliths. If that is the case, it is not an infection, but repeated tonsil infections can make you predisposed to tonsillith formation. I would recommend that you consult your physician for further evaluation and treatment.

Your symptoms could be due to sinusitis, if it is accompanied by nasal stuffiness and facial pain or pressure. Sinus infections can cause stuffiness of the nose with nasal blockage, which can make breathing through the nose difficult. It can also cause post nasal drip and lead to an irritation in the throat. You will need to consult your primary care physician for proper assessment. In the meantime practice good breathing exercises, humidify your room and do steam inhalations.
