hmkim, alchris - I will try to get a referral from another doc.
JodieJ - I also found that New York Magazine's online list of best doctors star those with Castle and Connolly recognition.
PatTap - I came across MacKool in a earlier sweep but didn't look into him carefully. Now I see from you that he has a healthy volume of cataract practice and from Google that he has done a good bit of research in cataracts over the decades. I assume she is happy with the surgery and experienced no major complications. What kind of guidance did he provide about the IOLs in her eyes?
thanks for the input everyone, much appreciated.
Hi Visible,
My wife went to Dr. Richard MacKool, director of the MacKool Eye Institute in Astoria, NY, to have her cataracts done. He's a high-volume eye surgeon who averages ~70 surgeries a week. IMO, a very good eye surgeon.
Try www.castleconnolly.com. You'll get a list of excellent doctors, including info about their education and details related to their practice, for a nominal fee. (Or you can go to the public library and look up the same info in the Castle-Connolly books for no charge.)
Just trying to help, also if they call the office it is quite and more than possible to get a great doctor referral thru them.
Doctors at vrmny are retinal specialists, not cataract surgeons.
Thanks for the suggestions.
A list of good NYC cataracts surgeons is not hard to find; I was hoping to find out which of them -- or if someone different -- is truly national caliber.
Eagle Eyes used to provide an insiders knowledge of cataract surgeons across the nation. Does she or he post here anymore?
