yes, okay to let it be in there for a week "free floating".
sounds like they may just reattach the old one. interesting.
no, they wouldnt necessarily need to take measurements for a new one, they could use the parameters of the old one...
The new IOL has me worried. When the surgeon looked in my eye he asked his resident "what is your suggestion". The resident suggested replacing the IOL with a new one. The surgeon said "how about we just keep the current one".
If they were to put a new one in there would they need to pre-measure and order the IOL or can they decide mid-way through the procedure to put a new one in instead of re-attaching the old?
One more thing.. my surguery isn't for another week. My IOL is just free floating around in the vitreous fluid. It's quite difficult to see. The surgeon said the IOL couldn't harm anything floating around in there. Is it ok to just let it free float for a wekk?
1) you *will* get a new iol. he most likely cannot/will no "reattach" the old iol. i'd be surprised if he did that
2) laser retinal surgery...no, few complications. its a very good idea
3) the "sutures" the resident is talking about your body absorbing are the sutures that closed the incision in your eye to do the surgery. there are no "sutures" that are "absorbed" to hold your lens in place. you and your resident and your surgeon are talking about 2 different things. the resident is talking about EXTERNAL wound-closing surtures. you're talking about holding the IOL in place. thos are not related.
4) dont know if you'll need new prescription glasses or not, but i would say its highly likely.
5) recovery time depends on what all he has to do suring the surgery. average is about 6 weeks
