Swollen eye, seeing red.

Hello,
Yesterday I noticed that in my right eye (which is legally blind, I can only make out shapes and colors) everything has a red tint.  I don't know how long this has been that way, I rarely pay attention to the vision in that eye.  My mother mentioned that it was kind of 'bulging'.  To me it seemed a little bit swollen and there is a pressure pain.  Like sinus pressure pain, but only in that eye.  I am also light sensitive now, but I honestly can't tell if that is just in the one eye or both.  Bright light hurts.  I don't know if this has anything to do with it or not, but for the past couple of weeks I've noticed some tiny, white 'fireworks' whenever I am in bright light.  They aren't floaters, they shoot all over the place and there are hundreds of them.  But that is only in sunlight or looking towards a window or something bright.

Thank you for your help
Brenda

Thank you for your help and for your kindness.  I just thought I would follow up and let you know that I was an opthamologist.  He did what seemed to be a thorough workup and said a couple of things.

1. My cataract is very dense, too dense for him to see if there is blood behind it.

2. He asked if I had trauma to my eyes recently because there are "a lot of abrasions" on both eyes.  (I haven't)

He told me the abrasions are probably causing light sensitivity and he didn't see any evidence of blood, but couldn't rule it out yet.  He sent me home with Systane (I think?) drops to use 3 times a day and told me to use a hot rag on my eyes at night before I go to sleep.  I'm to see him again in a week.

Thank you again for your information and for not making light of my insurance fears.

YES.  it will be covered by medicare.

this is a MEDICAL problem.  it doesnt matter if they cover your "vision care" or not.

BTW that is not a "bad" question.  that is a toally legitimate question!

This may seem like a bad questions, and I'm sorry if it does... I'm on disability and medicare.  They don't cover eye exams unless it is considered medical (I believe).  Is this something that medicare would cover me going in for?

you need an eye exam ASAP.

the "seeing red" or et tint could be bleeding inside of your eye.  that might also explain the swollen feeling & light sensitivity.  you may also have vitritis or uveitis.  even in a "blind" eye these could be a big deal.

too many possibilites to try & guess on.  someone needs to look.  get an exam.
