body instincts

sir,my question might seem weird and foolish but is very important and relevant to me.off-lately
i have become very anxious about my eyes.i had got conjunctivitis in both my eyes.i went to the doc.he put me on steroids and my condition and symptoms got worse.
i got keratitis because of the antibiotic and steroid drops.my vision in left eye became hazy.i mean,i know at times u just cant help it.but when i went to him i had no pain in my eye.my eyes were red and watery.my question to you is when should we visit a doctor.when it is an emergency or even as a precautionary measure.cause sometimes the meds only relieve the symptoms.they dont help fight the disease.in my case my symptoms after the drops became worse.probably because i had viral conjunc and the doctor put me on antibiotics.i mean just tell me whether the body instincts will always give u signals of huge discomfort or pain or there are cases or diseases when the disease doesnot show any symptoms and u are check-mate.i noticed that going to one doctor to another and not trusting my body has gone against me.also the drops and steroids go in the body so they are definitely chemicals which will affect ur system in some way or the another.not now then probbaly later on.kindly guide me.

thanks for being extremely supportive.not necessarily painful but every disease would show some symptoms.i mean even in glaucoma also a person might have problem with vision, etc.otherwise it would be very dificult for a person to be diagnosed.and in cases like glaucoma u get it after a certain age where u also have secondary symptoms.vision probs, difficulty in healing.plz comment.

i cant guide you in this manner.  who does & doesnt need a visit to a doctor is a matter of opinion and varies greatly among doctors and patients alike.  no, there are no 'telltale' signs of 'huge discomfort or pain' in some conditions.  some serious and blinding eye diseases are totally painless (like glaucoma), and some relatively benign non-vision-threatening conditions can be excruciatingly painful (like corneal abrasion).

not to try and dodge your question, but i cant answer for you 'when' to go to a doctor or when not to.  thats impossible.
