small wavy vision after retinal surgery

Since sept of 2006 I've been fighting a torn detached retina.  They tried using the laser twice with no success, I had vitrectomy surgery twice  with the gas bubble and a scleral buckle, in both instances the retina detached taking my center vision.  My retina is doing good now and I have just had cataract surgery resulting from the gas bubble which lasted for 3 months. My vision was -10, my cataract surgeon and I decided to use a lens that would bring my eye back to 0 because I'm all ready developing a cataract in my other eye.
Since the retinal surgery, and still after the cataract surgery my eye has shrunk and hour glassed everything in my center vision, when I look at someones face they have a small head sitting on a big body.  I've been told the hour glassing will most likely remain, my question is there any thing that can be done for the small Images, I've noticed that reading glasses do not magnify the images.

Hi, i recently had 2 operations to repair a detached retina(left eye) and im on the way to recovery (i hope!).

I injured my eye late last year and went for a lacerated corneal repair the next day after the injury, and from the healing of my eye i got some scar tissue which detached my retina which is what my doc anticipated would happen.

But before all this both my eyes were fine i just wore glasses when working in front of the pc...so my question is will my other eye's retina detach as well ?
must i go for a check up on that eye ?...cus i sometimes freak out at the thought!.

I might have lazy or droopy eye.

I have to admit, she looked better.  Jeez.

My eye it self has not shrunk, its the images I see out of the eye are smaller, almost a third the size of what I see out of my good eye,  I think they call it minification. The hour glassing is like looking into the fun house mirrors. I also get a lot of double vision.  but not as bad as it was before the cataract surgery.

What do you mean when you say your eye has shrunk ?
3 weeks post DR surgery, my surgery eye is 2/3 the
size of the 'good' eye.  See the  Scleral buckle or Vitrectomy?

I don't see the hour glass thing.  Rather, I have double
vision on the sides and when I look up.  Time will tell if that diminishes.
I'll ask my Dr. tomorrow about my eye size.  BTW,
I'll trade my double vision for your hour glass  :-).
Might as well joke about it.

Thanks for your concern!  My retina was last fixed on october 4th, and no I don't have any underlying causes for the detachment, other than being so nearsighted, the retina doctor has told me that my good eye also has thin spots in the retina, so I'll have to watch it pretty closely.  I,m still hopeful after they use the yag laser to fix what they call the second cataract that I'll be able to see some out of this eye, Its the small Images that concern me.

I'm very sorry to hear about all your troubles with the detachment.  How long has it been since the final repair of the detachment?  I've heard it can take quite a while for the eye to fully recover from this type of procedure.
Also, did you have any other conditions such as diabetic retinopathy or any other degenerative conditions?  There are so many factors that can determine the final outcome it's just too many to list.  I wish you all the best.

not really.  buckle causes distortion which is not usually solvable with traditional methods.  if your rx in that eye really is '0' and reading glasses dont work, then depending on your best corrected acuity you might be onto 'low vision devices':
