vision correction with cataract surgery

After cataract surgery on right eye, distance vision was corrected from a -4.00 to a -.75, with reading remaining at +3.00. In planning for left eye cataract surgery, what type of vision correction is recommended to be able to read a menu without glasses starting from a -4.00 shere +.75 cylinder 137 axis and +3.00 reading?

no.  assumedly you are in a +3.00 add b/c of reduced acuity with cataracts.  not too many (almost none) non-diseased eyes get an Rx over +2.50 from me.

Understand don't necessarily get exactly what shoot for. Why the +3.00? don't really know but seems to work. Might there be a better alternative? As for menu reading, I say regular distance, not too close, not too far--however could adapt. So with a presurgery rx of R -.75 +.25 30 +3.00 and L -4.00 +.75 137 +3.00, in a perfect world what would the best vision scenario be after surgery?

oh, also...depending on the density of your cataract, shooting for -1.50 does not mean thats what you'll get.  its kind of ballpark-ish the way they estimate those things.  sometimes not very accurate.

it depends on how close one holds the menu.

i would say approx -1.50

incedentally, +3.00 add is a little more than i usually Rx under normal circumstances.  any specific reason why you're a +3.00 add?  i mean i occasionally write it, but its usually for people with problems (like cataract, macular degeneration, etc...reduced acuity type stuff)
