Any prevention for myopia for young kid

In a recent visit to Pediatric Ophthalmologist for my 2 year old son, we were told that he has slight farsightedness and astigmatism. Doctors asked us to bring him back in a year for recheck and issue him glasses. It was big surprise to us as no one is our family wear glasses and my son did not show any sign of eye trouble. Doctor performed retinoscopy, though my son was not very cooperative. Since we'll go back in a year to get it tested, are there any measures to prevent his eyes condition getting worse and avoid glasses at this early age. We are planning to cut down time for TV and playing with iPad etc and get more outdoors. Will any of these measures help? When asked, doctor said there's not much chance that his eyes can auto-correct or grow out of this condition. Any personal experience or suggestions would help.
Thanks.

Thanks for your reply Dr. O. It's encouraging to hear that is may get better as child grows because most online talks are only about getting worse with each passing year.

I do not believe any exercises of change in activities will change it.  Farsightedness usually gets better as the child gets older.
