Can someone offer advice on a 30-Year Old Intraocular Lens Implant?

My 84-year old father has a 30-year old Intraocular Lens implant -- that was placed after he had a successful retina reattachment surgery.  He struggles to see with that eye.  We took him to see an ophthalmologist with a good reputation for doing cataract surgery -- and she said that she couldn't help.  Is there a type of eye specialist that could help my father see better?  He is a very active senior and the best part of my day.  He loves to read and keeps a journal, but these activities are growing more difficult without being able to find some help for his vision problem.  Any advice would be welcome.

IOLs last longer than the people they are put in.  The problem is almost assuredly not the IOL but the damage due to the retina and macula by the retina detachment. Also if the macula was detached even if the  retina is reattached the eye often does not recover good vision. IOLs have been high quality since about 1980. You would need to confirm with the ophthalmologist that examined him that the problem is the retina-macula.
