What is best way to deal with both eyes after cataract surgery in one eye?

I had cataract surgery in my right eye a few days ago. During the post op exam I was told my long distance in my right eye is 20/20 (can't read with it though so will need glasses to read). My next cataract surgery for my left eye is scheduled for around Jan 21...about 1.5 months from now. My left eye is around -5.0 diopters and everything looks fuzzy through it...but I can now see pretty good with my right eye (which was much worse than my left eye before the cataract surgery at -9.25 diopters). How do I deal with the difference between my eyes NOW until the next surgery. I tried having them take the right lens out of my eye glasses thinking I could use my glasses for my left eye and see with my right eye through the missing lens...BUT...that did not work. When I tried that I saw everything double and in 2 sizes...IT MADE MY HEAD SPIN!.... Using both eyes now..it looks like my 'brain' gives some preferrence to what my right eye (the surgery corrected one) sees but the world still looks a bit funky. I do not want to wear a patch over one eye because it messes up my depth perception and I have to be able to drive at least a mile to buy food at  my grocery store and maybe hang out at my local Starbucks and talk to people..or I will go crazy as I live alone (am a 62 year old man). I don't want to drive further than this though..an not on freeways...until my other eye is done.  Contact lenses are out. I tried using them before I got the cataract surgery and I know they are not for me. Also, because I also have glaucoma, I have to use eye drops on both my eyes several times a day which also rules out using a contact lens on my left eye.

Do I have any other choices than to just wait and suffer? Thanks.

You have to rely on one or the other eye not both as they cannot be matched now. Most people do not wear glasses and depend on operated eye for distance and use over the counter reading glasses for near vision generally about a + 1.50 to +2.25   different distances are clearer with different lens. Bigger numbers for closer vision and more magnification weaker number like +1.00 for computer and shop

At one point, I had to go several months before I could get a new glasses script.  I wore my glasses and used an eye patch on the recently treated eye.  I found this brand to be superior.  http://thebesteyepatch.com/  It has a very low profile so it fit well under my glasses.  You could easily switch it from eye to eye to deal with close vs far vision.  I didn't have to contend with driving as I was able to get to work via public transportation. Best wishes
