Blepheritis/Zylet?

I have been dealing with now what they say is blepheritis. I have been going to the eye doc every week and have seen 4. I have had my eye pressures take 5 times and dialated 3 times. The dialating was cause I have so many floaters but both tests showed no issues.I have the sores and inflammation/dry,pressure and heavy lids but very raw. I have been doing the hot compresses and cleansing also the no perservative drops. They are worse and seem more dry and super red at night. I tried 3 types of anti biotic drops but they made them burn so bad and so we switched to oral ones but since that my eyes are dryer and hurt more. I called to see if I could give the first anti biotic drops again a try till my apt on wed. So I am starting zylet again for 5 days it says. I heard some negative about this drop. I am desperate and my eye doc said people usually get relief from this drop so I thought if ihave to go through the trial again I should start with this one. Any thoughts or is this more just a caution for long term use? Also by the way I have been wearing my glasses only and no make up. Thanks

No but its not for long term use contains steroids and some people can be allergic to the tobramycin or preservatives.

I have never had dry eye before now. About 6 weeks ago I was diagnosed with a "lid infection" and given zylet for a week. On the second day after the week of treatment, my eyes started to feel like I'd been punched in the eye. My doctor said I have severe (an 8 on a 10 scale) dry eye. He says I may never wear contacts again. It has been weeks and I still feel terrible and hopeless. I am seeking a second opinion now, but waiting to get in with new doctor.

Leave the contacts out of your eye. Dry eyes is one of the most common reasons for people to have to stop wearing contacts. Go to my home page and read my post on dry eyes. JCH MD

Zylet is a combination of a antibiotic and a steroid. Worse case is that you might be a steroid responder and your IOP could go up and take several months to return to normal, otherwise problems like itch, burn, rash, redness, swelling should clear within 3 weeks.

Thank you Doctor for your very fast reply.  "Zylet will not mess your eyes up forever," but is 3 weeks a long time, and is this something that is more common than I would have expected?  Could my eyes get better, but it might take months?  "Forever" is a very long time, so what should I expect for a recovery period?  And, why should it "mess" my eyes up at all?  Isn't it an anti-imflammatory, antibiotic?  I would think that this should not make my eyes worse, but it sure seems to have.  I just hope I don't go round in circles again with ophalmologists.  It seems to me, as is the case with many doctors, that if they cannot diagnose a condition, then it must all be in the patient's head.  Well, I'm not crazy, I just want relief.

Zylet will not mess your eyes up forever.

Be sure you are seeing a MD ophthalmologist. Ideally see one that specializes in cornea and external disease. tell him/her you are concerned about dry eyes and blepharitis. Talk to the Eye MD about going on Restasis.

I have had sensitive eyes now for 24 years.  I got a cold one day, and they changed over night!  At the time, I saw around 5 doctors, who couldn't find anything wrong.  That was 24 years ago.

I recently saw my opthalmologist for opthalmic mygrains.  At the time, I again mentioned my condition that I've had for the last 24 years: red eyes, eyelids, and hypersensitivity.  He has recently put me on Zylet and Soothe XP.  I had some burning after a few days, and had to stop for a few days for it to get better.  I resumed the medication again.  But, again I had an awful burning in my eyes, and had to stop again.  Now, it's been almost 3 weeks since I stopped, and my eyes are really burning and worse than they ever were before.  He has refered me to another doctor for a second opinion.  I can't help but worry that my eyes will never be the same.  They are worse than ever, and I wish I had never gone to the doctor in the first place.

Will my eyes ever get better?  I am starting to doubt it.  I am suffering every day and every night now.  I will be seeing the second opinion doctor this Tuesday.  I would very much like a suggestion from you on this matter.  Thank you.

1. You should be under the care of a physician ophthalmologist and not be seeing a non-physician, limited scope optometrist.
2. blepharitis is OFTEN associated with dry eyes and you should be tested for dry eyes with a schirmer test, tear break up time.
3. Besides treating your blepharitis you may need to go on Restasis or have tear duct plugs.
4. Zylet is very expensive and contains a steroid and is not for long term use. Risks include glaucoma, cataracts and increased risk of infections.
5. If you have not see a cornea/external desiease specialisey Eye MD get an opinion from one. Fine one at www.aao.org
