Multifocal IOLs available in North America, ReSTOR and ReZoom, have limitations: mainly loss of mid vision. ReZoom IOLs had many reports of unacceptable halos and ghosting resulting in explantation. There is only one accommodative choice, Crystalens, which has mixed results on this board.
I have multifocal (Tecnis) IOLs and need to wear +1.00 readers when surfing the internet. Tucked up close to the monitor <18" (45 cm) I don't need any correction.
Multifocal IOLs have a Neuroadaptation period of 6-12 months or longer. Night vision will not be good during the first months. Night time vision may become acceptable in time. I have no difficulties, but it took months for -most- of the halos to subside.
Monofocal lenses should not have an adaptation period. They may be either set for distance, requiring reading glasses for close work. Or you can have monovision where one lens is set for distance and the second set for reading. It may take some adjusting to this arrangement. Use the MedHelp search engine (upper right-hand corner of this page) to find posts discussing monovision.
Avoid the temptation of Multifocals ...read the reports on this site and others...wish you the very best.
During the past few days, Dr. Hagan advocated for the Tecnis aspheric lens. Please look for his post. I believe he suggested that the target for the dominant eye should be about -.25D and the nondominant eye around -1.50D.
