Crossed eyes after reading.

After reading, my eyes remain crossed for some time. It takes considerable time for them to adjust. At extreme distances, like looking at the moon or stars, they are always crossed. If I don’t read, the problem is only at extreme distances. I wear bifocals. Could cheap glasses be causing this? What is happening?

Update: I discovered that using readers with prism factored into the prescription solves the problem. Also, using a prescription with less astigmatism correction for distance vision helps.

You will need to see an Eye MD ophthalmologist for a definitive diagnosis. There are a number of causes: you could have an eye muscle problem, you could have convergence insuffiency, your bifocal may not be strong enough for your age, you might have glasses with the wrong prescription or manufactured and fit incorrectly.
