Distorted Vision

Hi

I am 38, in the UK, I am worried about my eye problem, and wonder if anyone has experienced the same symptoms or can advise me.

I have always had short sighted-ness, and now this problem.

I have been going the hospital every 6 months for 5-6'ish years now as I have experienced distortion in my left eye, even if I have a piece of paper with writing on end of my nose its still distorted at the short distance. Every time I go I ask if anything can be done but they says its something i must had been born with.

At the moment looking through both eyes I can see things clear, but I am worried now as I noticed my right eye has a very slight distortion, with both eyes I can still see clear at moment, I am terrified it will go like the left and I will lose my normal sight and everything will be distorted.

I have an emergency appointment Friday, but still afraid of the findings and if the right will go the same. I am going to try push for some answers I want to know like what it is I actually got, and I will try again to push if there is anything that can be done instead of just waiting for sight to go.

Anyone know what it could be I got?
Like I say its distortion not blindness, suppose you could say like looking in water, letters are italic or pushed together unreadable. really bad like I say in left eye. Worried about right now.

thanks
Shirl

Why not call up one or two? Tell them what tests you need and ask what they will charge.

Hi,

I am not wealthy, but just curious what is a ballpark figure on how much a specialist costs?

Thanks

Another relatively common cause of the problem you have is a blockage of a retinal artery or vein. Do not neglect this getting evaluated promptly.

If you can afford it, why not go outside the NHS to a private retina specialist? While visiting the UK I had occasion to go to a private doctor. I was well satisfied and the cost was much lower than it would have been here in the States with no insurance.

Most of the people that post here from the UK are very frustrated and dissatisfied with the NHS. In the USA I would tell you to see a retina specialist and get an macular OCT and perhaps a fluoriscene angiography. Since you like in the UK I would tell you the same thing and good luck. You could have a serious macular problem.
