Does Visian ICL enhance light sensitivity?

Hello, everyone.

I have had eye surgery (Visian ICL) to supposely correct my very near sighteness (11/12 diapoters) done in 2009. However, I primarily had the surgery done in an effort to reduce glare from my glasses, which I have worn since I was 7 years old, and now I am 24, had the surgery done 2 years ago.

This is the problem. Lately I have been experiencing EXTREME discomfort, when it comes to light, whether it is outside in the sunlight, on the computer, and now casually watching television. It gets so bad that I cannot stand to watch Television anymore and I am starting to have a lot of concerns.

Although I hate to shed light on this, my eye problems are not new. I have had so many problems with computer eyestrain that I done whatever possible to try to cope with it, including using a glare screen, a projector 800x600, visian icl (2500$usd for each eye), reducing brightness, Installing flux (orangey tint), a large monitor, and high polarizedly oakley sunglasses.

In the past I have taken several online courses, which was a necessity to complete my degree. I have know finished it but I have moved on to fulfill my aspirations as a composer, which happens to use a lot of computer software.

The most effective treatment has been using F.lux and oakely polarized sunglasses, with a large 22 inch lcd monitor. I have been able to go several days now without too much problems. However, now when I wear them for 5+ hours straight, I cannot do anything else without wearing my sunglasses. I tried to go outside today without them but the light was so piercingly discomforting that I had to really force my eyes to adjust to them. I tried watching TV on the projection television but had to give up trying.  I am currently wearing my sunglasses while typing this.

I am running out of options cause I recently seen an eye doctor at Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN, a very prestigeous hospital, and all I got from him was wear eyedrops.

The only solution I have found was to avoid bright things, especially computers, cause it has the tendency to induce my insomnia, which was another problem underneath my biopolar and previous schizoaffective disorder. I did not go back to my surgeon because, I thought that my mental illness was more problematic, but it actually happens to be related to it cause the eyestrain got so bad it was severely stressing my body out.

I just wish I didn't have this problem, then I can continue doing things that I love to do. It has largely affected my career as a data entry clerk, ability to get a career/ higher education that relates to computer technology, which is what I have alwyas loved to do since I was young, and my ability to focus on my hobbies which I can't even do anymore since its a lot of computer use activity.

My severe mental history is another downside because of the bright lights, which I have now learned, has affected my ability to sleep soundly and the eyestrain gave me "symptoms" of psychosis, but I have tried 7 different antipsychotics 3 different antideprssants and 2 antiseisure meds with so severe side effects for each one, I was contemplating suicide every day for about a 1.5 years until I have decided to stop listening to the psychiatrist and make my own damn decision.

Everything's fine now, but my ability to use the computer is still problematic, and even before my sever emental problems it was eyestrain that came first

Any help is beneficial, I am thinking about getting hte visian icl taken out, but I already forked 5000$ for the surgery in hope it would help my eye problems.  Is it possible the Visian ICL is enhancing light to the eye?

Sincerely an unhappy man with sensitivity to light

Actually I stopped all my medications, I take fish oil 2x 1000mg each, and a multivitamin.

So I can't blame it on the meds.  But in 2 years I was on paxil, depakote, wellubtrin, seroquel, geodon, abilify, risperdal, invega, xyprexa, clozaril, ativan, clonadpin, clonadin, ambien, neurontin, so its a lot.

I am seeing my surgeon this thursday.

If I get a really common sense answer than I will just have to accept the fact the computer is causing too many problems for me, and I will simply have to stop using it.

I am just a little worried that in brightness regardless if I am always wearing the sunglasses for an outside position will I still have these problems?  I know for certain the
computer seems to induce severe insomnia, eyestrain.

This is what I believe: my eyes have adjusted to wearing the polarized sunglasses for 8 to 10 hours straight (with some breaks) during the day, that when I do take them off for a long period of time during they day they cannot adjust to the light very quickly.  It seems to have lost its reactivity.

It literaly took 2 days without using the computer to finally have some relief on the eyes.  Although ti still hurst to look outside on a cloudy day.

I have spent 2 years with this issue.  So its probably best to just quit using the computer.  Now if I can only get myself to do that.

I think you taking medication for so many things can cause this,Ive had icl implants same as you, I was on antidepressants for other things not to do with my eyes ,but I found my eyes where very sensitive to light the same but not so severe as yours, this is due to antidepressants causing your pupils to dilate letting more light in,also I found they made my eyes sore  and made the pressure build up in my eyes, like some one was squeezing my eye balls, which made me think at the time it was my implants which then stressed me out even more, which made me then take other medications to fight that pain like painkillers, which then dryed my eyes out..as you can see one thing can cause a roller coaster of other problems..what i did was to come of the antidepressants and after about 2-3 weeks later  each day my eyes got better as it came out of my system, that is the key mate trust me!
All the other systems stop i.e dry eye ,pressure in eye stop which then stopped me taking  painkillers and sensitivity
You need to stop and start fresh, you may also have a slight eye infection which made my eyes sensitive to light after I stopped antidepressants i think from being run down and dry eye form medication which I had which cleared in 4 days with brolene eye drops.
Last thing you should do after you done this and you fresh again start taking FLAXSEED oil I swear by it teaspoon morning teaspoon evening wow!makes your eyes feel great not sensitive and pressure free!
