Does my son qualfiy for disability for poor vision?

My son's vision is steadily getting worse. His last prescription of contact was 5.25 in his right eye and 5.50 in his left eye. He has astigmatisim. Does this qualify him for disability? If so how do I begin the process?

Your son probably doesn't come even remotely close to qualifying for disability unless he can't see even WITH his contacts.

Is your son legally blind when he wears his contact lenses?  Most people with prescriptions much stronger than your son's have good corrected vision.  In order to qualify for disability, you must be unable to work even with corrective lenses.  You need to contact the disability office to start the application process.

Hi, the definition of blind for disability is very tough. Does your son have other reasons for claiming disability? His eyesight will not help much, unless he has another eye problem.

The best person to ask about disability is a lawyer. Our county legal society lets you talk to one for 20.00, for 30 minutes. Maybe your county has a service like this.

Why are you so anxious to jump on disability? Don't treat you son like there's anything wrong with his eyes. Assuming he has normal vision with that he just has a long eye.
