EYE TWITCHING

OK, I NOTICED THIS AFTERNOON THAT MY LOWER, RIGHT EYE LID WAS KINDA TWITCHING (LIKE MOVING BACK & FORTH).  IT ONLY LASTED FOR A FEW SECONDS AND WENT AWAY.  IT'S HAPPENED A FEW DIFFERENT TIMES....DOES ANYONE KNOW WHAT COULD CAUSE IT??

I HAD BEEN TO A OPTHAMOLOGIST BEFORE AND WAS TOLD I HAD DRY EYES AND BURCITIS (?) SHE GAVE ME SOME DROP TO TAKE.  BIT I'M NOT SURE IF IT'S RELATED.  I ALSO SUFFER FROM ANXIETY, HIGH BP AND PRE DIABETES.....I WOULD REALLY APPRECIATE SOME ADVICE!!!

In 99% of the cases twitching of the upper or lower eyelids is due to "myokymia" (not the same as superior oblique myokymia). Its common and non serious. May last for days, weeks or months but eventually goes away. It is not due to anxiety. Use the search forum and archives and read more.

It is also not the same as blepharospasm where the whole eye jerks closed or hemi-facial spasm where half the face jerks and contracts.

The  blank post by Dr. Oyakawa or Dr. Hagan simply means they've read the latest post and have nothing further to add.

Thanks!  I know when i looked in the mirror yesterday, its like Im getting brown spots on my face and I decided i was going to leave the tanning bed alone....I dont want to look all blotchy!  I just got into a therapist but it was the just my first visit so just all questions....it did seem like i got some things off my chest tho!  I have a feeling it will be beneficial once i start going on a regular basis!!  I freaked out when my eye started twitching...thinking it was a brain tumor or something like that wrong.  I just always think the worse!!  Havent really noticed my eye twitching all that much today, so maybe its gone or calming down :)  Thanks again for all the advice!!!!

As the doctor said,  you do not need to be worried.  Eye twitches are harmless.

As for what to do,
1.  Do not go tanning yourself.  It will make your skin look way older faster.

2. If you have problems with anxiety, it would be a good idea to see a specialist like a counselor or psychiatrist about that.  You would be much happier and calmer with therapy.

No one has noticed it, I just noticed it today.  Anytime something new that happens to me freaks me out (anxiety). I do have some lubricating and allergy drops for my eyes. I did go tanning today and didn't keep the glasses on the whole time....wonder if there is a connection??  Should I be concerned or what should I do??  Thanks for ur help!

I get this every now and then.  As Dr. Hagan says, it will go away.  I find that (a) it is not so noticeable to other people as you think, and (b) comcentrating on it definitely does not help.

Oddly, mine seem go be made worse by anything that causes swelling in the area, like allergies.  I have learned that in allergy season, my prescription antihistamine eyedrops really cut down on the fluttering.
