Eye Myopia

Hello. I have very high myopia. -29 in both eyes. I was to a very good retinal specialist t check my vision. I am 22. He was very surorised becuase my vision in one eye is 20/20 in other 20/60. My progression stopped in 2004. Since then i have the same. Also the other doctor was surprised because in one eye i was -30, now i am -29.

I have a very detailed exam. and i have only in one eye i little vessel broken so i have a tiny scotoma, but if i look with booth eyes i dont even notice it. If i look with only rght i see a little ways picture in the thinny scotoma.

Now my questions:

when i aksed him if age it is the possibility that iam going to be blind... he said.. if u maintain a healthy life, with no trauma and pressure u will presere a very decent vision because my vision now is surprisly good. Is he right? If my progression stopped for 6 years now and i have that good vision at my -29D is the vision more or less stabilised?

he also said, no pressure like increase the ocular pssure because my risk factor now is only the blood. Only blood and trauma can damage my eyes. Is that true? can blood pressure damage my eyes. What about sex and alcohool... i am not an alcoholic but here or there one or two beers with friends... I hve a girlfriend... what about ur sexlife? Is sex causing pressure in the eye...

Thank you a lot

E.R.

Physicians can never tell with certainty what will happen in the future. We don't have a crystal ball. We can only say what usually happens. Often this leads to misunderstanding. The chance of you going totally blind is remotely small. You are at risk of myopic and age related macular degeneration. Use the search feature and archives and read about these two problems and what you can do to reduce the risk of getting them.

To try and live a long healthy life with good vision see an ophthalmologist yearly and anytime there's a problem.  Do not under any circumstance use any nicoteine products, eat a good diet, exercise, don't get fat, have a personal physician and have a yearly examination. Don't drink in excess of two alcholic drinks per day. Ideal alcohol is red wine.

As for sex many sexually transmitted diseases can damage the eye.
