Floaters after cataract surgery

I wonder if you would be so kind as to answer a few questions that I
have following cataract surgery. I have had both eyes operated on. The
first was done on 22nd Decemeber 2009. Following the operation I was
given Maxitrol eye drops. Apparently these did not suit my eye and the
pressure went right up and the eye became cloudy. I was taken off these
and given alternative drops. The cloudiness improved but it was not as
good as just after the operation. I went back to the hospital and the
doctor said he would book me in for laser treatment on the eye because
he said that sometimes a film can develop over the eye and this needs
to be lasered to make a hole in it to improve the vision. The second
eye was done on 3rd February and immediately afterwards my vision was
excellent but this did not last. After a couple of days I got bad
disturbance in the eye, I have lots of floaters and what look like
watery rings that are always in front of my vision. I went back again
and was examined and told that the operations had been successful and
that the problems with the disturbance was coming from the back of the
eye from a detached membrane. When I said that I could not see this
before he said that maybe the improvement in my eyesight meant that now
I could see this. He said that there was no sign of a detached retina
or any other problems. I was short sighted before the operations but am
now long sighted. The second doctor said he did not think that laser
treatment was necessary on the first eye - he advised me to go to my
optician first and see if they could improve my sight. I am now
confused as to what I should do. Anyway do you think that this
disturbance in my eyes will improve with time and have you any
suggestion as to whether the laser treatment is necessary or not?    I
have read that laser treatment is normally done some time after a
cataract operation.
Many thanks in advance for you help,
Phil

If I could add a comment to the fine doctor's, I too had floater problem after "routine" cataract surgery that was disregarded and did not seek another opinion til it was too late. If the second opinion is a retinal specialist, it would be most beneficial. I would go asap.

Yag capsulotomy the procedure you had done is sometimes necessary immediately after surgery. I would suggest you get a second opinion from a different ophthalmologist.
