I had a closed globe eye injury in 2013 with all the horrible repercussions, traumatic mydriasis, angel recession glaucoma, traumatic cataract, retinal tear, etc… Everything is currently managed but in an effort to increase my visual acuity my retina surgeon recommended a PPV with ERM peel. Surgery went without incident and I didn't need gas or oil or even any laser. I'm pretty sure I had an uneventful surgery, i'm only 2 days post op so time will tell.
My immediate issue appears to be the a re-aggregated corneal abrasion. I had some corneal trauma with the initial injury and I have had flare ups from time to time. I had one after a gonioscopy and now it appears my cornea is causing me significant pain after the vitrectomy. I assume it's because they used a lens of some sort on my eye during the procedure and my eye dried out during the process and the lens simply "stuck" to my eye and re opened the original injury.
I had not noticed it on my 1 day post op visit or I would have mentioned it to the surgeon but it's become bothersome now. I guess my question is can I safely use lubricating drops or even some of the over the counter lubricating ointment while i'm in recovery from my Vitrectomy/peel? Is the use of those products at all contradictory to my Steroid or antibiotic eye drops? FWIW, I have used lubricating products in conjunction with my Combigan and Azopt without any ill effect. Thanks for any advice.
