Astigmatism : Glasses needed 24Hrs ?

YKA
Hi,

My 4 year old daughter has been diagnosed for astigmatism and she is having -3 and -4 Cyl readings, and doctor have prescribed the glasses for her , Her vision doesnt seem to be bad as such righ now , Will she need to wear glasses all the time really or she should spent few hours without glasses also . Can some natural exercise alleviate the issues associated with astigmatism, (if there are such excercises could you point them to us),  I fear that wearing glasses all the time can become a habit rather and wont leave scope of natural improvements possible , your advice please ..

regards,
y

Lazy eye is the common term for amblyopia.  The pediatric ophthalmologist will recheck the glasses periodically.  No exercise will help.

Hi Dr,

Thanks a lot for your advice

Our pediatrician didnt mention this term (amblyopia) but she told it can become a lazy eye later, in vision test sometimes she was reading 8, or Q as 0 as I remember ..and the axis in cylindrical number was 180 deg. ..

Also couple of question

a) How do we ensure that number of glasses is determined accurately
b) Any eye excercise we can pursue which will help in development of visual system ?

We will be discussing once more with ped. opth. also as you advised ..

The critical time for the visual system development is to age 5 or so.  It is important for her to wear the glasses full time.  Discuss this with your pediatric ophthalmologist.  Does she have amblyopia?
