restor lense problem

I had cataract surgery 6/08 right eye, 7/08 left eye. I had problem distinquisng numbers 8,9,3. when I closed my left eye and look at the horizon, there is a moving dipping going across. My doctor checked me for macular degeneration and this came out negative. The left eye is fine. I am going back to see my physician tomorrow 1/9/09, in your opinion is this a placement problem. Also she told me that I would need to adjust my computer screen closer, and that I could read easily when document in front of me at approx 12-14 inches, but I cannot read when the item is on the desk. What should I ask dr now ?  Please respond asap.

It sounds like your ReSTOR lenses are working as designed.  You might find "some" improvement in time with your mid-vision.  I've had Tecnis multifocal IOLs for just over two years.  It was greater than a year before I noticed my mid-vision had improved.  Try +1.00 readers.  You will find it changes your range enough to work comfortably at a desk.  I rarely wear mine anymore.

Dear Dr. I did have the macular (OCT) testing done which was negative, Would this problem be due to lens design ? and how can I address this to my surgeon today. Should she able to correct this ?

The loss of intermediate vision with the ReStor is due to the design of the lens.  It is a bifocal type lens with excellent distance and near vision but poor intermediate.

I assume you mean there is a central distortion in your right eye.  This suggests a macular problem.  Frequently, subtle problem are hard to diagnosis.

Was an OCT of the macula done?
