Looking for a cause of my eyes swelling up overnight, for no apparent reason.

Hi, so since about the middle of May this year my eyes have started to swell up on me overnight while I am sleeping. This only seems to happen once every 4-6 weeks, and ONLY ever happens overnight while I am sleeping, when I go to bed my eyes seem completely fine. I have not noticed any other accompanying symptoms and there have not been any changes in my daily lifestyle (diet, exercise, living arrangments, stress, etc.).

I have noticed when my eyes are swollen (both upper and lower eyelid) that they are crusty, and slightly more sensitive to light. To treat it I've been using some off the shelf eye drops for allergies and taking an allergy pill such as Benadryl or Reactine (I've tried a few different kinds) but nothing seems to help other than waiting for the swelling to go down which usually seems to take anywhere for 12-24 hours.

So I'm wondering what might be causing this to happen, as my doctor hasn't had any ideas, or if anyone else has had the same/ similar issues.

Can I assume you do not wear contact lens? That you have been in to see an Eye MD or an ophthalmologist? If not you need to do so.

The most common causes of this assuming you do not wear contact lens is 1. sleeping under a fan or having air blow in your face at night.  2. Sleep apnea if you wear a CPAP machine  3. A reaction to creams/lotions used around your face and eyes at bedtime. Common culprits include scented soaps and creams, hair dye,  eyelid cosmetics such as eyeliner, shadow and mascara. 4. sleeping with pets or stuff animals that cause allergy 5 dry eyes
