More advice please

Awhile ago Dr Hagan advised me to get mini-monovision lenses.   Of course, this suited me well, (the answer I mean) because I have been given mini-monovision with my hard contacts by the optometrist to avoid wearing reading glasses in the past few years.  Further, my left eye is weaker than the right one.  Dr Hagan said 0.0 in the right and -1.5 in the left for mono IOLs.  I notice that his advise is shared by many for comfy vision.  I have 3 questions:

1) Is there no one in this forum who has come away from multifocal IOLs happy? 2) With the 0.0 and -1.5 can I thread a needle, apply eyeliner without reading glasses, i.e. see my face up close without glasses?  3) I am now 59 yrs and I wondered what the lifetime for the plastics in the IOLs are?

Needless to say, my doctor who will be operating on me is now pressing me into Restor.  She seems to prescribe to Alcon which makes Restor (may be getting a cut from them?).  Sent me a huge package full of literature and offered me a no-interest payment plan for 2 years.  Have not bought her sales pitch yet.  My present contacts (given to me in 2008 July by yet another doc is set at -8.37 in both eyes).   My present vision at the last eye exam in Mar 2010 by her was -9.5.   Thanks!

Any IOL will out last you.  I am not an advocate of multifocal IOLs.

Forgot to mention...my doctor kept repeating that my pupils were very small.  What on earth does that imply with respect to IOLs?  Anything?
