My 2.5 old old suffering from myopia

Hi my 2.5 year old son has been diagonized with high myopia -10 diopters and he was suggested to wear glasses. Is there any alternative for this, can he undergo any sort of lazer treatment. More over when he grows will the glasses help him to keep the power range under conrol ? any suggestions?

The genetics and development of myopia are not understood. I am myopic but my siblings and parents were not.

The most difficult questions in Medicine and Life are often "Why me?" and "Why now?"

Most of the studies done on the development of myopia refer to simply mopia and not pathological high myopia.  Those other studies do suggest that outside activities (especially in adolescents and young adults who spend so much time doing close work on iPhones, iPads, computer games) may reduce the risk of simple myopia.

You child should as you were told wear glasses all waking hours including outside. Without glasses the eye-brain connection cannot work together to give the best possible vision. So do as your pediatric ophthalmologist says.

Hi Doctor,
Some websites suggest playing in outdoors without glasses helps in reverting myopic condition, but the ophthalmologist whom we are consulting asked us to make the kid wear glasses always.

What is your opinion on this ?

No eye exercise has been shown to be helpful.  Diet same as for all people: lots of fruits, vegetables, fish, fiber, berries, nuts, low in fat, low in high calorie processed foods.

Doctor, One more query. Do you suggest/advice any changes in Food diets and eye exercise that should be given to my son, so that when he grows he has some chances for his eye power getting reduced ?

Any idea why this happened to my son. Me and my wife are not wearing specs and it not a relation marriage also.

Will my son power can get correct as he grows, i mean when he grows his eyes should grow right, are there any chances or hopes his power could come down ?

Some pedicatric eye centers are set up to do continuous wear contacts but the child has to be put under anesthesia to make measurements and tests.

So it is an option not available many places. Ask your Eye MDs

Thanks a lot. Contact lens? Can he wear it? Moreover will his power grows over his age ? That's the biggest concern now! Please suggest!

No there is no alternative to glasses or contact lens at your child's age. Your child should be under the care of an eye MD ophthalmologist, ideally a pediatric ophthalmologist.
