glasses at age 5

we just went for eye checkup for my son and came to know that he has -1.00 / -2.75 / 180 on right and -5.25 / -3.75  165 on right eye. we never notice anything unusual while watching tv or reading book. he able to read clock on wall from 10 feet too, reading speed limit while driving a car, etc. so we are shocked. so we were told to have him wear glasses for 6 weeks and check again. so our concern is, first, is it too bad or  will be bad in furture for him or does this go down or up at his growth ?? any way to have it reduced ?? any answer will be really helpful.

Myopia usually does not get better with age.  He also has a moderate degree of astigmatism in each eye.  He should be check with an EyeMD or a pediatric ophthalmologist.
