Myopic degeneration

Myopic degeneration started, i am 20 yrs now... What is next? I know nobody could say but some statistics in your life career. It means it will progress? Slowly, fast, can remain stable? >-20.00 D... I am very depressed and without energy for a month now. I see no hope, no future for me. I want to study, i want to work. I don't want to be useless in my 30's.

There is a wealth of information here on myopic macular degeneration. Use the search feature and archives to read.  There is no way to predict the future. MDs don't get crystal balls when they get their degrees. I have been in ophthalmology over 30 years. None of my patients with pathologic high myopia are completely blind. Many have reduced vision but function well and see good enough to maintain a driver's license and use a computer and read.  We have many more tools for dealing with "wet" myopic macular degeneration.

read the article on macular degeneration (due to age) I wrote that is on this page and follow all the recommendations that benefit age ARMD.  By the way March is the American Academy of Ophthalmology's Macular Degeneration Awareness Month. I am one of the Spokesperson's in Missouri.  For more information go to www.geteyesmart.org
