I don't know that I was actually born with myopia, but I started wearing eyeglasses in 6th grade (I was 11).  The myopia continued to progress throughout my teen years, but leveled off in my 20's.  My understanding is that this leveling off occurs with most people as the body's growth becomes complete.

My parents were both myopic -- it does tend to be passed down one's children, but there's no way to tell whether your children will definitely inherit it, or what the degree of it might be.
