Optic drusen

Hi,
I went for a routine eye exam 4 yrs ago and the Dr said my optic nerves were swollen. This sent me into a severe panic. I was sent for an MRI, ultra sound of the optic nerves and vision field testing. I have a blind spot in one eye and my eye pressures are a little high so I am on watch for glaucoma. I was also diagnosed with optic drusen. My sister also has optic drusen. Every year when my annual eye exam comes around I automatically get worried sick for weeks before. I always feel like the Dr is looking for signs of a brain tumor. However, since I have had the proper tests and been diagnosed with drusen should I be more at ease about these annual eye exams? They throw me for a loop every time. Any info would be helpful! Thanks!

Yes you should be at ease. Optic nerve drusen can make the eye look swollen when its not a condition called pseudo-papilledema.

The OND  do however complicate the diagnosis of glaucoma.

No most brain tumors do not initially present with papilledema. And if real papilledema did develop it looks "different"

That's interesting. Wonder if my parents had it? Anyway, thanks for the info. One more question, if I did have a brain tumor wouldn't the OND mask the signs of papilledema?

Yes OND does run in families

Thank you. Does OND tend to run in families? Just curious seeing as my sister also has it.
