Persistent Chalazion

Hi Doctor,

I am 22 years old and completely despairing over these chalazions and eyelid infections.
I have had one in the upper eyelid removed surgically and it was fine for about 6 months. Then I had two infections in the same eyelid, and a few days later the chalazion was back! It was also joined by a small one in the lower eyelid.

Once again I had the surgery and both were back after a matter of weeks. One has now gone down after taking Doxycyclin but the one on the lower eyelid persists!

Any idea how to eliminate these once for all?
I clean my eyes twice daily, use no make up at all and wear focusdailies on special occasions only (eg. wedding)

Thanks!

Yes, I am seeing an opthalmologist in fact. I went to see him today
and he has prescribed doxycycline again for 4 weeks; I will ask for a prolonged period then. And Dexagentamicin drops as well.

I will try the foam eyelid cleaner; I have not tried that yet.

Thank you for your reply.

Use the search feature and archives and read about chalazia. It is an oil gland disease (like acne) and you don't cure that. You control it. You likely need to use a foam eyelid cleaner daily during bath or shower (occusoft of sterilid foam eyelid cleaner) over the counter and perhaps if severe go on low done tetra cycline for 3-6 months.

See an ophthalmologist, if possible a specialist in cornea and external disease.
