Poor Reading after New Glasses

Dear Doctor,

It has been 8 days since our 4.5 year old son got his glasses (for first time). We tried a home eye test today and he was unable to read the 20/32 and 20/40 lines with his new glasses. Does it take time for eyes to adjust to new glasses or is 8 days enough? Should we be going again to doctor to check his prescription?  

His prescription was:
OD Sphere   +3.5   Cylinder  -2.00   Axis  180
OS Sphere   +1.5   Cylinder  -1.00   Axis  180
PD 49

Thank you John. Indeed, we are seeing an opthalmologist in Bangkok's top hospital (we are expatriates in Thailand). However, your insights are very valuable since the communication is not very good with the doctor and he appears always in a hurry.

At your suggestion, we did get our other child (8 year old) checked and her eyesight came out to to +0.5, +0.5 but the opthalmologist suggested not to prescribe glasses at this time.

We appreciate your kind advice. Thank you again.

First you son should be under the care of a pediatric Eye MD or a regular ophthalmologist and not an optometrist.

Second it can take 6-8 weeks to adjust to that RX

Don't forget to have any other kids checked
