Posterior vitreous detachment

Hello there

Background: I am 37 years old with high myopia and
Right eye: I had a Retina Detachment about 5 years ago on my right eye. It was a scleral buckle surgery and since it was a 'lazy' eye since birth, post the surgery the vision has deteriorated that I can only read the top two lines on the snellen chart. The optic nerve too is damaged.

Left eye: On my left eye I had laser treatment for a couple of weak spots on the retina. The left eye glasses are -9 diopters. A couple of months ago I saw some floaters and I rushed to a retina specialist to learn that it was due to Posterior Vitreous detachment. A few days ago I see some shadows at the bottom left of my left eye. I checked with an opthalmologist. He examined the eye and termed it as acute PVD with no impact on the retina. Today I see the size of the shadow has increased a bit. I am concerned if this is a retinal tear or if this could lead to a retinal tear soon.

Please advise. I live on my left eye only and would appreciate if you can help.

Thanks

Narendran

Use the search feature and read about PVD and high myopia.

With any worsening of floaters, flashes, or loss of peripheral vision you need re-exam. You need to call the ophthalmologist and discuss what changes you've noted and whether to repeat an office exam.
