Here's a nonprofessional opinion: Fire your current surgeon! Any surgeon who recommends a ReZoom (use the search feature to read more about this obsolete, problem-ridden lens) to a patient with early AMD cannot be trusted. And please don't tell me that this surgeon is experienced and board-certified.
It sounds like you are mildly nearsighted in your Crystalens eye. Your second opinion surgeon's advice makes sense. You could also get a third opinion before making a decision.
Just curious: how does your distance vision test in the doctor's office?
Get a third opinion. ReZoom Is OLD TECHNOLOGY. As we speak the Am Acad of Ophthal is meeting in San Francisco Ophthalmology Times a major industry newspaper is featuring a research article by Dr. Kutrby and me that shows that ReZoom is by far the most problem prone multifocal IOL on the market. Recent study in J Cat and Ref Surgery showed worse optics.

Dr. Hagan:
Thanks for your advice. Is there any expert in South Jersey area, you can recommend for a third opinin?
Regards,
Yes, I am planning for third opinion. Difficult part is how to select aright doctor in South Jersey.
My distance vision can not be measured accurately because of PCO.
Dr. Hagan:
Dr. Omar Almallah from New Jersey has published some papers. Would you recommend that he is in the right field to provide third opinion?
Thanks.
I have a couple of suggestions for you. You want a doctor who is both experienced with the Crystalens and board-certified. You can get referrals to the former from the Crystalens website at www crystalens com. You can check out board certification at the doctor directory at www aao org.
Dr. Oyakawa is an expert about the Crystalens, and he is responding to questions today. Re-post your question today as a new thread and mark it to Dr. Oyakawa's attention. I suspect that Dr. O will agree with your second opinion doctor. If so, you may want to return to her.
Do NOT return to your original surgeon. (1) Explanting a Crystalens (which might work well for you with some adjustments) is foolish and carries risk. (2) Any multifocal IOL (including ReZoom and ReStor) is a very bad idea for someone with early AMD. (3) Recommending the problem-ridden ReZoom makes NO sense. Apparently this surgeon doesn't know what's going on in his own field.
Good luck!
Jodie J.
Thanks very much for your thoughtful advice. To re-post this message for Dr. Oyakawa, should I post on Eye Care Community Forum. I did not post it yesterday; does he monitor the forum on even days?
Thanks for your help.
Yes, I think that Dr. O responds on even days on this forum.
