Retina scar

I recently had an eye exam and was told there was an old scar on my left eye. I had numerous eye exam before and no scar was ever noticed, this scar could be very recent. What might be the causes for this? Any thing related to cardiovascular events? I was suggested to get the scar photographed, what could the photo help ?

Most people on their body have small to tiny scars some place on their bodies. I have one on my arm from falling out of an apple tree when I was a teenager.  If I have a physical exam by my family doctor he's not likely going to mention it.  If I see a new doctor he/she is not likely to mention it either because its small and insignificant.

Scars on the eye are often like that. If they're tiny and not indicative of anything serious I usually don't mention them.  If the scars are significant such as scars from ocular histoplasmosis I explain what they are and what to watch for.

So only the optometrist or ophthalmologist that looked at the scar could answer your questions. He/she should have at the time they told you of the scar. You have good questions but you will need to ask whomever examined you.
