Sharp, Jabbing Eye Pain

Occasionally, I'll feel a sudden and sharp, jabbing, needle stick type of pain within my left eye. I've experienced this maybe 3 times within the last 5 months. And, as painful as it is, it's momentary and the sensation leaves as quickly as it comes. Other than this brief and infrequent discomfort, I haven't visually noticed or sensed any other symptoms. Any thoughts or ideas about what this could be? thanks!

This is probably a corneal problem.  Do you have a history of corneal abrasion or surgery on you eye?

Thank you for your quick response, Dr. Oyakawa.
I do have a history of eye infections (both eyes), could that have any relevance?
