MY SONS EYESIGHT

MY SON HAS AS ONE DOC SAYS  ADULT PROGRESSIVE MYOPIA WHICH I WAS BORN WITH . HE HAS A -3000 IN EITHER EYE.THEY CAN'T DO SURGERY BECAUSE THE EYES ARE PAST -2500 AND WOULD BE AT RISK OF GETTING CATARACTS AND THE SURGERY FOR THAT WOULD CAUSE RETINAL DETACHMENT AND BLINDNESS. WHAT I NEED TO KNOW IS THERE ANYTHING  THAT CAN BE DONE TO HELP? HE IS ALMOST 33 YEARS OLD AND ON MEDICARE WHICH WOULD PAY FOR OUT-PATIENT SURGERY IF THAT WERE THE CASE BUT IT IS TOO LATE FOR THAT I'M TOLD AND TOO RISKY. PLEASE HELP. I'VE BEEN SEARCHING THE INTERNET FOR ANSWERS TO NO AVAIL . PLEASE HELP THANK YOU TIKI987

Hi,

I understand your concern for your son. Like him, I inherited my progressive myopia from my mother. I am a few years older than him and my myopia has reached a little over -32.00.My specialist is also unwilling to do surgery of any kind including IOL's for, I believe, similar reasons. My corrected vision is a little limited but I manage fairly well. I hope he can also cope with his situation. This is not the type of case I can make recommendations on because it requires an in person exam. He's obviously under the care of ophthalmologists now. You should discuss it with them
