Strange effects after Strabismus surgery

Good Day all,

I'd be extremely interested in hearing some opinions and experiences of cases similar to my own.

I recently (six weeks ago today) received Strabismus surgery on my left eye. As I have been told is normal I have had the eye over corrected to a slighty "inward" looking squint and suffered quite severely with double vision and loss of balance afterwards. After two three weeks of wearing prisms the double vision appeared to have corrected itself and my eye is slowly moving back toward the "centre" position. As I have been lead to believe that this is all normal and to be expected.

My real concern is that I have only just begun to attempt to drive.....and have realized that there is no way I can do safety without endangering myself and other road users.

As soon as I'm in a vehicle that begins two travel in excess of 30mph I begin suffering from severe double vision although it appears as if the "ghost" image is only apparent as if the traffic is approaching my left eye and at an angle. It's extremely disorientating and causes me to steer and maneuver erratically.

I'm concerned that this only seems to occur when I'm moving at speed either a passenger or driver.

Can anyone explain why this is or have they experienced this before?.

As I said my vision is a little "blurry" in my left eye and the best description I can give is that when I close my right and look out from my left it's like looking through a dirty window.

My vision is acceptable for doing most of my day to day tasks but being unable or in my opinion unsafe to drive in my current situation is becoming a problem for me.

I would be interested to hear anyone s thoughts on this as I am beginning to worry if I will ever be safe to drive and the ability to do so is essential in my line of work!.

Anyone one any comments?. Should I be contacting my surgeon who carried out the operation?

Many Thanks

Four years ago I had the same surgery, it was on my right eye, it was overcorrected and it's been constant double vision fron day one....To make a really long depressing story short, get an eyepatch, cover a lens with black tape or nail polish, and drive carefully... I almost have accidents every single day back and for th to work, etc.... In my case the oncoming vehicles appear in front of me ( without the patch of course ), My doctors can't be bothered, my family basically say get over it, too much drama, friends start to abandon you b/c in their mind you're not a normal person... So take it slow, you say you can function for the most part, God bless you... It is a long hard and lonely struggle... If you ever need to vent on this issue drop me an email  ***@****, I myself have thought about suicide b/c it's double vision is unbearable, but I'm trying to be strong for the kids...  Your buddy Dave R
