My 2 year old got a Stye last week and my husband took him to the Dr.  He was prescribed Clindamycin.  This seems very strong to me and I don't really see much on the internet as this being something prescribed.  Can you tell my why this might be prescribed by a doctor in a pediatric patient with his first stye?
Thanks so much.
Tricia

standard treatment of a stye in kids and adults is topical warm compresses (if possible) and antibiotic drops or ointments and as best you can cleaning the eye lids with an over the counter product such as Ocusoft Plus PLATINUM.   If the pediatrician thought there was soft tissue infection (pre-septal cellulitis) then oral anitibiotics and careful follow up would be appropropriate. Continued lid cleaning with Ocusoft PLUS PLATINUM (they also make "Original" and "Plus" but the new Plus PLATINUM is best. Hard to find can order on internet.
