Monocular Diplopia and no treatment?

My 16 y/o daughter was diagnosed with Monocular Diplopia yesterday.  The Dr says there is no treatment for it as there is nothing technically *wrong* with her eye.  It is believed that it occurred 3 years ago when she fell getting out of the bathtub and bumped her head.  It was right after that that the double and blurry vision started.  We have gone to numerous Doctors and they all agree that it acts like a lazy eye, but they think it has to do with a nerve possibly.  She was told yesterday that she can wear a patch, or she can get a clear contact that has the center painted black.  But that is all that can really be done, as she has 20/20 in her other eye.  Does this sound right?  I cant seem to find anything on this disorder that says no treatment.

It was a specialist like you named that diagnosed it. He said it is likely from a trauma to the head a few years ago in a fall. He said there is nothing actually *wrong* with her eye...that its more than likely in a nerve. Up until sgw hit her head....she's had 20/20 in both eyes and no problems with her vision. Now that eye is 20/70 and double. I'm just stumped that it came on like it did and can't hardly believe there's nothing that can be done. Just a hard pill to swallow when she's only 16.

I would recommend you see a pediatric ophthalmologist or strabismus specialist.

The doctor has to determine the location of the double vision.  Usually this is in the cornea or lens. Does a pinhole remove the monocular diplopia?  If so, it may be due to the cornea or lens.  A hard contact lens over refraction will determine if it is in the cornea.  Also, an Nidek OPD III scan can help to determine if the problem is in the cornea or posterior to it.
