Temp partial loss of vision

On two occasions (over two years apart) now I have lost partial vision in my left eye. The loss was sudden, but slowly came back fully in about three hours. After a MRI and lots of other appointments the doctors do not have an idea of why it happened or if it will possibly lead to losing my vision in my left eye completely. They only tell me to go to the ER if it happens again.
Has anyone else experienced something like this? It bothers me not knowing what is wrong and the lack of solid explanation worries me.
