Vision after Cataract Surgery

Hello,

I had my cataract surgery on my right eye, with Toric IOL, I have plan for surgery for my left eye in next week, Iwas nearsighted prior to my surgery and Ihave Toric IOL set to distance. I have few questions:

1>I have heard that eventhough IOL is set to distance, some folks can view Intermediate distance with IOL set to distance ( like computer) or even reading (near) unless it is fine print, How long does it take eye for healing to see more closer than on the first day of surgery ? Should we expect more better vision for near/intermediate over t time ?

2>I have imbalance in my eye due to surgery in one eye, should I expect that to go away after surgery in the next eye

3>Should I expect better near/intermediate vision after surgery in the other eye

Thanks

We use mini-monovision all the time in our practice with great results; plus as I said it's widefly discussed in this forum and you can use search feature and archives to read more.  "Distance" vision is 20 feet away or more. So if you were 20/20 without glasses in each eye after surgery with 0.00 refractive error you could not read, shop, see computer, dashboard of car or television sports scores without progressive bifocals.

Consider getting a second opinion from a different surgeon about leaving the second eye about -1.25 myopic

Thanks JCH

When I had asked my Surgon for modified vision, he told me you may loose depth, so it my be better to set both eyes at distance( both Toric)

However if I have both eye at distance, will I be able to see at Near ? as right now, I cannot see Dash Board writing while driving car, but I can clearly see the distance while driving.

Should I be expecting better Near vision in 2-3 weeks, so that I do not need to have reader glasses all the time, as currently having difficult time, reading the shopping label

-Thanks,

With a toric IOL the vision 2-3 weeks post operative is usually stable. Some people can read in good light especiallly if they have a small amount of residual myopia.

Yes the imbalance usually goes away when second eye done.

DIscuss with your surgeon leaving the other intentionally myopic about -1.00 to -1.25 to be sure have intermediate vision. If both eyes are 0.00 not likely you'll be able to read in good light, use computer or see to shop. That plan is "mini-monovision distance bias" Search that term and read about.
