Red Eye Problem From Morning Mistake

I did something really dumb this morning when I was taking out my contacts. My contact in my left eye actually fell out of my eye onto the floor before I even knew it and I spent minutes poking and prodding my left eyeball for it until I realized it fell on the floor. By that time my eye was severely red and irritated from all that action. I could still see out of it just fine though and over the course of the day - the redness gradually rescinded. Just as a precaution - I switched to glasses for the entire day and used lubricants extensively.

Now - my left eye's redness and irritation has died down quite a bit though there is still a little bit of red that I think should clear up by next morning and am wondering if I can start wearing contacts again tomorrow - or should I even bother seeing an eye-doctor for something this simple?

Thanks Doc for the response. Throughout this event - I never really had any eye-pain, but just some slight irritation in my left-eye. I administered two doses during the day of Ciprofloxacin on my left-eye (which I had gotten months ago when I had pink-eye) yesterday, just as a precaution (should I continue doing this?)

This morning - my left eye is a more back to normal - though there is still some redness in the bottom areas of the eye compared to my right-eye. I still have a slight irritation on it (like an dryness feeling during blinking), but other than that - everything's normal. When you do you think I can start wearing contacts again instead of using my substitute glasses?
