IOL side effects: ghostly vision / double image

I have been implanted with an AMO NXG1, 17.0D (2012-09) SN 4321760709 Ǿt: 13 mm,  Ǿb: 6mm  A.P.: 3.5D on my left eye, on July 2010.  I have a difficult vision, which main issue is that I see a double image. This double image is more clearly noticeable on strait vertical line shapes (i.e.street lamps, trees). I see a repeated overlaped parallel image.  The same happens with human faces. I cannot see a clear image at all, compared with my right eye plus glasses. Neither do I see clearly on texts, due to the said ghostly or double image vision.  In fact I can see much better with right eye (non operated) with glasses, for far distance, or without glasses for near distance (reading). Is there any possibility to correct that?  Is the lens not fit for me? Can I have a replacement for a better IOL?  Many thanks for your help

You're probably better off creating a separate post rather than continuing this one.  Dr. Hagan is more likely to reply to a post that was not already responded to by Dr. Oyakawa.

Dear Dr. Hagan:
One month ago I went for surgery on my right eye (IOL). One year ago I had the same on the left eye.
At this moment I have this situation:
Near vision:  my vision is not as I expected. I can read small prints with difficulties and large characters can be read.
Intermediate/Far vision:  this is my real problem.  The ghost vision has increased now that my second eye has been operated. The contrast between dark figures with bright figures (even people) makes a bright band overlapping the dark figure (on the left side) and a shadow band on the right side.  These bands are always vertical.  Even on a tiled floor, the union lines between one tile and another, is repeated.  In near vision I can also find repeated lines in a grilled chart, for instance.
My question is:
Can this be astigmatism?  Can it be corrected?  Should I wait further time to have a establed vision?  Can I have dry eyes?  How can I correct it?
Thanks a lot for your time.

Dear Dr. Hagan: I have been implanted an AMO IOL last July.  After the summer my doctor prescribed me to go through Lassik to remove a residual 1 dioptry (miopia) and the astigmatism.  But after 21 days, I still have such double vision.  The real result is that I have a much better vision with the right eye plus glasses for far distance and also much better vision for near distance (reading) with my right eye without glasses. Another example:  If I look to a person wearing dark clothes, which is in front of a yellow building under the brigh sun light, then I see his body half yellow (as a repetition of the building image) and the right hand side body in black (as it really is).  This effect is causing me trouble to see clearly.  In one week I am visiting the doctor again and I will try to find out how much astigmatism I have, because both you and Dr. Okayama think this residual astigmatism is the origin of my problem.  My question is:  after the IOL and later lassik correction, can another lassik session be done to further correct the astigmatism?  How many times can a lassik correction be done?  Thanks a lot to all of you. Best regards from Barcelona (Spain)

Does glasses improves the situation in the operated eye?  It seem the LASIK did not correct the error.  I would get a second opinion.  Post your question about Rezoom on an odd day (Dr. Hagan posts on odd days and I post on even days).

Dear Okayama san:  trullly appreciate your encouragement!  I am really concerned. I had only 3 or 4 dioptries (miopia) and a low astigmatism before I went through the IOL implant back on July-2010.  After the summer my doctor prescribed me to go through Lassik to remove a residual 1 dioptry (miopia) and the astigmatism.  But after 15 days, I still have such double vision.  The real result is that I have a much better vision with the right eye plus glasses for far distance and also much better vision for near distance (reading) with my right eye without glasses. I believe the operation I had and the IOL was not a good idea.  May be I should have just corrected my vision with a lassik operation and wear short distance glasses.  By the way, I could not find any publication on this topic on Dr. Hagan`s (whom I feel very gratefull and also to you, for having such an interesting and useful tool)  search function.  Trully appreciate your time and support. Best regards from Barcelona (Spain)

Use the search function. Dr. Hagan has published on this topic.  You probably have the Premium lens with the most complaints.  You double vision is probably due to residual astigmatism.  This can be fixed.
