I had my thyroid removed a year ago and had raditaion treaments for the cancer that was found. My vision got so bad that all I could see was a blobby blur. My doctor raised my Syntrhoid dosage and it seemed to help a little bit, but my vision is still blurry and now my right eye flutters constantly. Over eight days now. I have chest pains and my muscles hurt. What is happening? Any help would be greatly appreicated.
One thing I forgot to tell you after a thyroidectomy you will be Vitamin d and b12 deficient, make sure your doctor checks these as they will make your body hurt.
I don't think there is one of us that has hypothyroidism after thyroidectomy that isn't hypoglycemic afterwards. Take your meds first thing in the morning, then eat 1/2 hour to 45 minutes later. Make sure its something with protein in it. If you do this you won't have any problems with it.
As far as the blurry vision, I found out 2 months after my thyroidectomy that I had livedo reticularis and 8 months later that I had Raynauds and possibly Lupus or MS. I will be going to a Rheumatologist in January tto find out which one is causing the blurred vision. It has been 8 months now since my total thyroidectomy and the blurred vision is still the same and my Endocrinologist doesn't have a clue as to why.
Thyroidectomies come with many surprises. Like autoimmune diseases.
What was the reason they took yours out?
Make an appointment with a Rheumatologist they seem to know more about it.
Ask me questions anytime.

I am only 10 days post op, however I am drawn to the internet to find any information regarding blurry vision post total thyroidectomy. Surgeon and Endochrinologist are coming up for follow up, but I am wondering should I go elsewhere and is time of the essence. My ability to see has changed very much. I am also experiencing hypocalcemia and will be monitored for the post surgical piece. I just need direction. Can you help?
Thanks,
Diane
"Probably" is a bad answer. Blood test came back it is a b12 deficiency, shots have been started. I will get the parietal cell bloodwork back today.
